I know I really should stop baking till next year but this is a last minute, urgent request order from a friend for her son’s Full Moon celebration party.
For those of you wondering what this Full Moon celebration means, according to Chinese custom, when a baby turns one month old, a ceremony is held to celebrate her first month of life (the Chinese term translates as "full moon"). This coincides with the end of the new mom's confinement period and both mom and baby are formally introduced to the extended family and friends for the first time.
Before the unveiling party, the baby traditionally undergoes a host of rituals. Once that is over, a party is held to celebrate the health of the baby. Relatives and friends gather to give their blessings and gifts to the new baby, and traditional treats such as ang ku kueh and red eggs are featured.
Due to time constraint I decided to make a simple design cake with painting on it. I adore the illustration from Rachelle Anne Miller so decided to use one of her family series illustration in the painting. Thanks to Rachelle for giving the permission to use her lovely work.
I love painting so it comes quite natural for me and it meant the cake was finished in time for the party. Happy 1 month old Ashton!! May the goodness of God shines on you always
